COLUMBUS, Ohio - Michigan State freshman kevin Puskaric turned in an outstanding showing Friday at the Toyota Grand Prix swim meet at Ohio State's McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion. Puskaric placed ninth in the 100 breast finals with a time of 1:04.31, good enough to punch his ticket to the Olympic Trials later this spring.

Puskaric won his heat en route to the ninth-place finish. He was one of 10 breaststroke swimmers to make the Olympic Trial time of 1:04.69.

"Kevin did a really nice job. The MSU swim program is very proud of him," Michigan State head coach Matt Gianiodis said. "He's done really well this year."

The Grand Prix is one of the most prestigious swim meets on the amateur circuit. Six former Olymipans competed in Puskaric's event alone. Olympic gold medalist Michael Phelps was among the competitors in the meet.

MSU sophomore Marcus Poteete, who has qualified for the Olympic Trials in the butterfly, also competed in the Grand Prix on Friday.
