Six Runners Earn All-Region For Michigan State Cross Country

EAST LANSING - Mich. - The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) has announed the Division I Cross Country All-Region Team. Earning honors for Michigan State women at this year's Great Lakes region race was senior Nicole Bush (2nd), junior Alissa McKaig (8th), junior Lisa Senakiewich (10th), junior Sarah Price (15th), and freshman Becky McCormack (25th). Max Goldak received all-region honors for the men's side finishing in 23rd place. Bush has been the leader all season for the Spartans. She has finished in the top-five in five of the six events that she has competed in this fall. She finished second at the Jeff Drenth Memorial, first at the Spartan Invitational, fifth at the Roy Griak Invitational, 12th at Pre-Nationals, and second at the Big Ten Championships and the Great Lakes Regional Championships. McKaig has also turned in strong performances this fall, including a first-place finish at the the Drenth Memorial, second at the Spartan Invitational, 11th at the Griak, ninth at Pre-Nationals, and finished the Big Ten Championships and the Great Lakes Regionals in eighth place. Senakiewich has recorded two third-place finishes this season, and crossed the finish line in 12th place behind Bush and McKaig at the Big Ten Championships, and finished 10th at the Great Lakes Regionals. Price has finished in the the top-20 in five of six meets, most notably finishing 19th at the Big Ten Championships and 15th at the Great Lakes Regionals. She placed fourth in the first two events of the fall at the Jeff Drenth Memorial and the Spartan Invitational. McCormack has ran in two races this season and posted top-25 finishes in both. She ran to a 25th place finish at the Great Lakes Regionals and finished 20th at the Spartan Invitational in mid-September.
"We are very proud of all of our athletes," said associate head coach Rita Arndt-Molis. This is the second consecutive year that the top-five girls on our team have made all-region, so that's very exciting and indicative of the girl's hard work and our program." Max Goldak has been a standout for the men's team this year. He has two top-five finishes this fall, and finished 23rd at the Great Lakes Regionals with a time of 31:30.73. "Max's success this season has been the result of hard work and a lot of miles," said coach Arndt-Molis. "It started in the summer and has continued throughout the season and he has earned all of it." The MSU women travel to Terre Haute on Monday, Nov. 19 to compete in the NCAA Championships. MSU received an automatic-bid to the championships after a first place finish at the Great Lakes Regional Championships on Saturday, Nov. 10. |
