EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State volleyball's Kim Schram and Maggie Griffin earned All-Big Ten honors as the league office released its 2004 All-Big Ten teams Tuesday. Schram, a senior, was a unanimous first-team selection, while Griffin was named to the All-Big Ten Freshman team.

The honor marks the second consecutive year in which Schram earned first-team All-Big Ten accolades. Schram, a native of London, Ontario, finished her career at Michigan State ranked third on the all-time kills list (1,758), tied for seventh in block solos (82) and second in career kills per game (4.23). She began the year as an unanimous selection to the Big Ten Preseason Team in a vote of the league's coaches. Schram was ranked among the top three kills leaders in the Big Ten throughout the season, and finished the year averaging 5.08 kills per game in conference play, second only to Ohio State's Stacey Gordon (7.00). Additionally, Schram had 228 digs, 65 blocks and 35 service aces on the season.

Maggie Griffin is the first Spartan to earn Big Ten All-Freshman team honors since Kim Schram in 2001.

Griffin, a setter from St. Charles, Ill., had 1,324 assists on the season, which ranks seventh among single-season leaders at MSU. She set the freshman record for assists in a season, trumping a record that had stood since 1997 (Vicki Basil). She averaged 13.21 assists per game in conference matches, ranking fifth in the league. Griffin also posted 64 kills and 222 digs on the year to go along with 48 blocks and 24 service aces. She is the first Spartan to earn All-Freshman team honors since Schram in 2001.

Ohio State's Stacey Gordon was named Player of the Year, while Paula Gentil of Minnesota was named Defensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive season. Kate Price of Penn State was voted the Freshman of the Year. The Big Ten coaches and media both voted Ohio State's Jim Stone as Coach of the Year.

The Spartans concluded their season at 12-16 overall and 7-13 in the Big Ten, an eighth-place finish.
