Michigan State Track And Field And Cross Country Aid American Red Cross
The Michigan State track and field and cross country programs recently joined forces with the American Red Cross to raise money by wrapping presents and accepting donations to benefit victims of tragic circumstances in an event held at the Meridian Mall in Okemos, Dec. 8-10. Spartan student-athletes spent over 25 hours wrapping presents, greeting customers and collecting donations.

McKaig And Rafferty Earn All-America Honors
Two members of the Michigan State women's cross country team have been honored by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association with selection to the 2006 Division I Women's All-America Cross Country Team. Alissa McKaig (10th, 21:06.7) was the top Spartan finisher at the Division I NCAA Championship Meet hosted by Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Ind., on Nov. 20., while Michelle Rafferty finished as one of the top-30 American runners (33rd, 21:23.1) to garner All-America accolades.

Spartan Cross Country Posts Strong Finish At NCAA Championships
The Spartan men's and women's cross country teams participated in the Division I NCAA Championship Meet hosted by Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Ind., on Monday where the No. 4 Michigan State women captured a 12th-place finish on the 6,000-meter course, and the No. 27 men's squad finished 17th on the 10,000-meter course. Alissa McKaig was the top finisher on the women's side with a 10th-place time of 21:06.7, while Justin Zanotti paced the Spartan men, finishing in 97th place overall with a time of 32:35.7. McKaig and Michelle Rafferty, who finished in a time of 21:23.1, received All-American accolades for their performance at the championship meet.

Drenth, Arndt-Molis Named Great Lakes Region Co-Coaches Of The Year
Michigan State's Walt Drenth and Rita Arndt-Molis were named the 2006 Great Lakes Region Women's Co-Coaches of the Year, as released by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Nov. 17. Drenth and Arndt-Molis led the Spartan women to the Great Lakes Regional Championship on Nov. 11, securing an automatic bid to the national meet. Michigan State will be making its sixth-straight appearance at the NCAA Championships, and enter the race ranked No. 4 in the nation. The Spartan men will accompany the women, after finishing fourth at the regional meet and earning an at-large bid.

Cross Country Continues To Collect Honors
Eight Spartans were named to the Great Lakes All-Region Team by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Nov. 14. To be considered for the All-Region team, athletes must finish in the top 25 of their region and meet NCAA Division I Cross Country Coaches Association requirements.

No. 27 Men's and No. 4 Women's Cross Country Headed To NCAA Championships
The Michigan State men's cross country team will join the women's squad at the NCAA Championships in Terre Haute, Ind., on Nov. 20, after receiving at at-large bid. The women automatically qualified for the national meet, clinching the Great Lakes Regional Championship on Nov. 11. The win catapulted the women to a No. 4 ranking in the nation.

Spartan Women Win Great Lakes Regional Championship
The Michigan State women's cross country team beat two top-10 nationally ranked teams on the way to winning the Great Lakes Regional on Nov. 11. It was the third Regional Championship in school history and the first title since 2001. MSU entered the race ranked No. 11 in the country and with the win, automatically advances to its sixth-straight NCAA Championship on Nov. 20 in Terre Haute, Ind. The Spartan men finished fourth at the regional meet, and will have to await the announcement of at-large selections for entrance to the national meet.

Spartan Cross Country Preps For Great Lakes Regional
The Michigan State men's and women's cross country teams will compete at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional in Bowling Green, Ohio, at the Forrest Creason Golf Course on Nov. 11. The women's 6K race begins at 11 a.m., followed by the men's 10K race at 12:15 p.m.
